It has been a while since I’ve written anything “substantial” on here. Redundancy and a new challenging (in a good way!) day job have had their part to play, but so has getting ready to speak at the recent On Landscape Conference up in the Lake District. I might write about that (and at least publish my powerpoint deck) and the seed of a conversation I had with Richard Childs about the move to digital and how our photography has got lighter.
Back in October I went to the Western Lake District around Boot in Eskdale to meet up with fellow Sheffield photographer Dav Thomas for a few days. The intention was to photograph the Autumnal colour, but Autumn is a fickle thing, and whilst by the same point the year before the trees were bare, this year the tree had no intention of changing colour or indeed shedding any leaves either.
This shot was taken as we explored the area close to Boot near Stanley Gyhll Force. The whitened fern leaves drew my eye as they contrasted so much with the dark background of the earthen bank.
