XX - Slate Cutting Saw, Australia Level, Dinorwic Quarries

Field Notes

One from a whole workshop full of abandoned slate cutting saws on the Australia level of the Dinorwic Quarry above Llanberis in North Wales.  Dinorwic Quarry, started in the late 1700’s at its peak employed over 3,000 men, with many of them living on the hillside in barracks.  The quarry continued in use right the way through until the 1960’s.
