Eskdale and more generally the Western Lake District is a bit like the “Undiscovered Country” .  They are very much in the Lake District, but given the drive to get there – either circumnavigating around the edge of the Lake District or going up and over the top via the “challenging” Hardnott and Wyrnose Passes (think single track roads with wheel spinning gradients) – they don’t tend to get visited as often as the more popular areas and as a consequence remain relatively untouched/quieter.

I was there for 4 nights on a bit of a photography trip with Dav Thomas.  On the whole we stuck to and explored the area around Boot in the Eskdale Valley, with a trip over to Wastwater to have a look at that.

The photograph below was taken as the Sun was heading towards the horizon.  I was taken with the spider like mountain ash/rowan juxtaposed next to the yellowing Silver Birch with Kepple Crag in the distance.
